Unibloc: the new spot for bouldering enthusiasts in will soon open its doors

Returning to settle in after 20 years in music in , Robin Leduc joined forces with David Monnot to create Unibloc, a new climbing gym which should open its doors at the beginning of next spring.

“Bouldering has become very popular in recent years. Paris, , … There are now gyms in all the big cities. But this is not yet the case in the cities averages”. And not in Carcassonne either. It is from this observation that Robin Leduc, who returned to settle in the Aude prefecture after twenty years in Paris, and his partner David Monnot, both enthusiasts of climbing in the great outdoors, decided to create Unibloc, an indoor climbing gym, which should open its doors by next March.

David Monnot and Robin Leduc created Unibloc which will open by March 2025.

Installed in the former premises of Total Indoor, the structure will benefit from the interesting volumes of the building: “800 m² of blocks for climbing, in a room with a total of 900. We will be able to create a climbing school, because the existing one is saturated”note the two partners.

As the name suggests, bouldering involves climbing on indoor facilities. The distance from the ground is relatively short, and the ground covered with mattresses therefore allows climbing without the need to be secured with harnesses. “For those who want to climb a little higher, there will be a section with harnesses and pulleys for self-insurance”add Robin Leduc and David Monnot.

In total, climbing enthusiasts will be able to climb 800 m² of bouldering.

Another objective for the two friends is to be able to host official competitions: “Everything was designed by a specialist, validated by a dedicated design office”. Currently, the block frames are being installed. And it’s David Monnot, a carpenter by profession, who takes care of it: “The blocks rest on wooden frames, like the frame of a house. It’s very solid”he specifies.

In the rest of the space, Robin Leduc and David Monnot will install a bar, a restaurant area with local and short-circuit products, a mini-climbing room for children aged 2 and up, and a corner relaxation. Objective, “create a real living space”.

For the practical side, the room will be open 7 days a week, with times yet to be defined depending on attendance.
