Bakel, Dec 20 (APS) – Territorial elected officials from the department of Bakel (center) were introduced to the rules and procedures for awarding contracts on Friday, at the initiative of the Senegal River Valley Resilience and Community Development Project (PRDC-VFS).

The PRDC-VFS deemed it necessary to introduce elected officials in this area to public procurement. He decided to provide “material, logistical and food” assistance to 700 households living in eight municipalities in the Bakel department.

''Whoever talks about procurement refers to a stage in the implementation of investments. If you miss the procurement stage, the entire project management process is impacted,'' said Mamadou Diédhiou, coordinator of the Senegal River Valley Resilience and Community Development Project. .

''This training marks the launch of the entire process of capacity building for elected officials, concerning the preparation, launch and execution of markets,'' added Mr. Diédhiou.

The PRDC-VFS, an initiative of the Ministry of Family and Solidarity financially supported by the World Bank, has planned a budget of 1 billion 149 million CFA francs to help households affected by the floods along the Senegal River. , in the regions of Saint-Louis, Matam (north) and Tambacounda (east).

El Hadj Doudou Diop, a deputy mayor of Bakel, thinks that training in public procurement rules will be useful for the implementation of this project in the municipalities of the department.

''Many elected officials embark on the exercise of their functions without a good knowledge of the skills of the municipalities. This is an opportunity for them to have perfect mastery of procurement procedures,'' explained Mr. Diop during the training session.
