Salon-de-Provence: the Wednesday market will change on February 1

A true institution Salon-de-Provence, the Wednesday market in the city center will see its perimeter modified from February 1, as voted on Thursday, December 19 during the municipal council.
“We wanted to make it less spread out and more compact, indicated Mayor Nicolas Isnard. Thus, the fairgrounds between the town hall and Monoprix will change location to meet lower down..
This will concern 18 fairgrounds : 13 regulars and 5 sedentary. After an explanation phase in January, the change will apply on February 1st.

The market will last an hour longer from April

“We have had this change in mind for a long time, completed in front of the elected officials Michel Roux, 1st deputy notably delegated to the fairground markets. We found ourselves in front of a market that was discontinuous in places, with free spaces following the cessation of fairground activities. This affected the quality and consistency of the market which was almost 2 km long. We discussed it with the fairgrounds and the aim is to refocus this market. To keep a market attractive and add value to it, you have to know how to evolve.”.

So, the Wednesday market will form a loop, “which will avoid the dead-end effect like today at Monoprix”added the mayor.

This will also have the advantage of restoring traffic at the end of Cour Gimon. Another new feature expected from April: themarket stops at 1:30 p.m. instead of 12:30 p.m.. A greater range of hours made possible thanks to the success of the “0 waste” market.
Indeed, since the fairground workers leave with their waste, under penalty of fines, cleaning is faster. And will therefore allow the Salonais to stroll a little longer among the stalls.
