For two years, sanitation has been at the heart of all conversations in Les Abymes… The residents of the Ariane Bazin residence are angry because they are disturbed by bad odors and are faced with recurring floods. The cause: a failure of the lifting pump which is used to raise the wastewater.
Repeated floods, household waste and mosquitoes, the residents of the Ariane Bazin residence in Les Abymes are experiencing a real ordeal. For more than two years, they have also suffered from bad odors.
The cause: work due to the construction of new buildings not far from their residence. LThe electric meter has also often been faulty for years and causes power outages.
As a result, the lifting pump which is used to raise the wastewater to allow its evacuation no longer works properly. Tired of this situation, and a few days before Christmas, the residents of the Ariane Bazin residence are stepping up to the plate.
Health is not good. We feel anxious… We live in that and it's always the same. I hope people can do something anyway…
Brigitte Beviny, resident of the Ariane Bazin residence
More than just bad odors, this dysfunction hides a more serious problem, the health risk.
It only takes 10 minutes to rain for us to be overwhelmed. We have water up to the cars so we have to move them. Residents next door cannot return to their homes because the water rises to the third step. People have worms coming into their homes. I have already been sick several times because of mosquitoes but nothing happens.
Colette Odin, resident of the residence
A move of the meter and a new lifting pump would have been promised by the social landlord, Semsamar, but nothing has been done since.
When contacted, the management of Semsamar does not wish to comment for the moment.
