A piece of luggage abandoned by a passenger at Geneva International Airport (AIG) caused part of the terminal to be closed around 2:30 p.m. for a little over an hour.
The police carried out a “removal of doubt” to ensure that the luggage was not booby-trapped. A Nedex alert which involves mine clearance services. First, the police try to find the passenger and open the baggage, if necessary. If the passenger is not found, it is destroyed.
The operation can take between three quarters of an hour and an hour and a half. In this case, it took an hour.
Part of the terminal was closed but flights were not delayed and passengers were rerouted. So-called Nedex alerts are said to be common at the AIG, once a week.
The Airport invites passengers to be careful with their suitcases, especially during busy periods, as is the case this Friday. Around 67,000 travelers are expected on the eve of the Holidays, one of the three busiest days of the period.
