A large audience responded to the invitation to the general assembly of Leinua, Sunday December 15. Leinua proudly defends its status as the most important school of Basque dance and music in the entire territory of Iparralde.
Three new sections have been created in recent years and the number of active members has increased by 40% in three years to now reach 270. From the very positive moral report presented by Xabi Labescau, Roger Goyhénèche and Sébastien Paulini, we will remember the success of the show “Hirurak Bat” bringing together dancers from Leinua, musicians from Hernani and a children’s choir from Noáin. The production of the “Zur-Errituak” and “Oihal-Errituak” rites as well as the cultural exchange with the Breton group Bleuniadur were greatly praised.
Presented by Laëtitia Serres, the financial report reveals, in addition to public aid, a major financial effort by the association to provide itself with the necessary means to carry out its projects. Voted unanimously, these two reports were followed by a presentation of the highlights of the year 2025: creation of the shows “Aintzina” and “Bi-Gehio#2”, resumption of the rites “Zur-Errituak” and ” Oihal-Errituak”, “Hiruak Dantzan” Basque ball events, participation in an international festival in Morocco, among others.
Rejuvenated Board of Directors
During the presentation of the strategic orientations of the association from 2025 to 2027, the members of the office expressed the wish for a board of directors enlarged in number and representative of all generations. A message received with enthusiasm, since the new council now has 24 people, including eight young people under the age of 25.
At the end of the meeting, Colette Arnou, assistant for culture of Villefranque, and Marie Pérès, assistant for associative life of Saint-Pierre-d’Irube, greatly congratulated the Leinua members for the quality of their projects in favor of outreach Basque dance. Leinua remains a nursery, a formidable showcase for its three municipalities and well beyond the borders of the Basque Country.
