In a press release published this Friday, the collective Cap tram northwhich brings together 27 associations in favor of the project defended by the metropolis of Strasbourg, asks the prefecture to “ ignore the unfavorable opinion of the public inquiry commission« .

An unfavorable opinion with deleterious consequences, according to the collective

In the eyes of the collective, such an opinion will have consequences on “the residents of the north-west of the citywhich will continue for several more years to be crowded into largely saturated bus lines« , « will not unclog the place of the iron man » or even « will not ensure a direct, efficient and comfortable connection to the European institutions« .

The collective also regrets the “ 72 cycling blackheads that won’t be treated« , « trees that will not be planted« , the « living environment that will not improve » or even the “ sanitation networks which will not be resized to absorb more and more frequent thirty- or hundred-year rains.

The northern tram, a tool in the fight against climate change, pleads the collective

“The completion of this tram project is also the contribution of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg to enable to reach the objectives for limiting greenhouse gases by 2050without wasting time,” the collective further pleads.

“The rejection of this project, nipped in the bud, as indicated in the local press, will set a precedent both among current and future decision-makers and it is not at all certain that other mobility projects will see the light of day,” he argues.

For the commission, a catch-all project with relative added value

In its report, the commission of inquiry points to numerous reasons for dissatisfaction to justify its unfavorable opinion, such as perfectible routethe traffic complicated in several places in the city, a vagueness around the encryption of the project or its aspect tote.

The commission also mentions oversold elements, such as the transformation of the Place de into a 16 hectare park, but also a problem of “general security”, a subject “discussed nowhere” until then.
