This Tuesday, December 17 at 10 p.m., in front of the entrance to a residence located in the La Frayère sector, in La Bocca, an individual was smoking cannabis when he was arrested by the municipal police.
He then utters insults and threats against them. And takes a selfie near officers, while consuming illicit substances. To escape the agents’ control, he calls on his friends and family, including his father, who tries to intervene.
“Sentenced in court to… complete a citizenship course”
This individual was handed over to the judicial police officer for acts of contempt, rebellion and incitement to rebellion, and, following this incident, the mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, spoke out of an X post in which he announces “obviously request the eviction of this individual and his family from their social housing”. Then in another, he announces that in “waiting for the outcome of our expulsion process, […] the individual in question was sentenced in court to… carry out a citizenship course”.
The City of Cannes specifies that “in France, the mayor does not have the possibility of evicting tenants from social housing for acts of delinquency. […] This is why David Lisnard is calling for a change in the rules to allow mayors and social landlords to evict from housing those who harm society even though they benefit from assistance from society.”
