Employees of the Reception and Situation Examination Center (CAES) in Montpellier, managed by the 2choseslune association, were on strike this Thursday, December 19, to denounce institutional mistreatment and deterioration of working conditions.
It is the entire day team of this center intended for the very first reception of foreigners, even before the asylum application stage, which stopped work this Thursday, December 19.
In front of the center gate, on which a union banner is placed, the atmosphere is not calm, while around ten strikers have met with the local press and supporters. It is therefore with José Théron, coordinator for the CGT Action Sociale, that Le Poing will discuss, the employees fearing reprisals.
“Employees went on strike today to protest both against a deterioration in their working conditions and against the unworthy reception conditions for migrants in the center. The charter of the 2choseslune association, for example, provides for a minimum of 7m square for individual migrant rooms, while in fact some are no more than 4.7m square. explains the trade unionist. “The toilets are outside, there is only one food distribution per week while the people welcomed are without resources, since they do not yet receive the allowance for asylum seekers. »
To which must be added premises, in particular those where interviews between social workers and migrants took place, the unsanitary nature of which was noted by occupational medicine.
“While the information was transmitted several months ago to the Departmental Directorate of Employment, Labor and Solidarity (DDETS), a prefectural service which is also one of the main financiers of the center, nothing has been done. done until recently. »continues José Théron. “Result: at the last moment, the maintenance offices were moved to bungalows, where the confidentiality of discussions is no longer guaranteed at all, which poses a problem for working with people who have particularly difficult life paths. The dining room will close on December 31. »
Contacted by Le Poing, neither the 2choseslune association nor the DDETS prefectural services have yet responded to our questions.
