Promotion and support of local artists and democratization of the visual arts among all audiences, from early childhood to the elderly: this is the mission that has been set Pillsa young association created in (Seine-Maritime) in 2023.

“We started from the observation that very often, artists are alone and do not have the right network or the right tools to be able to develop, make their work known, find opportunities, etc.,” explain Magali Suire and Habib Fenni, the two co-presidents of the association, themselves artists, and Aurélie Daniel, secretary. The idea is therefore to regroup in order to be more efficient. »

Reach out to audiences far removed from culture

Pills today brings together around twenty artists, all of whom have the ambition to make a living from their art. And of course, no art without an audience. On this aspect, the association wants reach out to audiences far removed from culturewhether for social, geographical or disability reasons. “We really care about this dual social role, with artists and audiences,” emphasize the creators of Pills.

Initially, Pills established itself in the third place Le Quartier Libreleft bank in Rouen, for 6 months. Every three weeks, a different exhibition is presented. For some artists, it was the first time they had the opportunity to exhibit alone. A pop-up gallery was also held for a month and a half, in October-November 2024, at the Théâtre des arts. There, a scenography entitled “From monsters to fine arts”, specially designed for children, was presented. 300 schoolchildren came to discover it.

In parallel, Pills offers various services: workshops for children, organization of artistic birthday parties, rental of works, artist residencies etc.

But the priority objective currently is to find a permanent place to settle, a place of work, exhibition, workshops, etc. An essential prerequisite in the continued development of the association, which could ultimately have four part-time employees, who will keep the structure alive while still having to carry out a professional artistic activity. “We are currently in the middle of research and we have good leads,” indicate the members of the association.
