Thursday, Yanick Morandeau, 60, was sentenced to 30 years of criminal imprisonment by the Meurthe-et-Moselle Assize Court in Nancy for the particularly violent murder of Eric Diard, 48, which occurred in 2020. The court did not retain a security period or the alteration of discernment, despite the defense pleading the absence of premeditation.
His lawyer, Me Julien Marguet, expressed his incomprehension at the severity of the verdict: “This sentence is an incomprehension, already in relation to the personality of my client and his non-dangerousness […] then due to the absence of premeditation found by the court. » The lawyer has ten days to appeal.
Nearly sixty stab wounds
On September 17, 2020, Yanick Morandeau, an entrepreneur with no criminal record, surprised his partner in the company of her lover in a van after consulting a GPS tracker installed in his wife’s vehicle 44 times. In a fit of rage, he attacked Eric Diard, a professional musician, inflicting 56 knife wounds and eviscerating the victim’s body.
