This year, Paris has been the center of attention on numerous occasions and tourists are likely to flock to the streets of the capital next year. This summer, the Paris Olympic Games highlighted the architectural and historical beauty of the city and a few days ago, it was the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame de Paris which attracted the eyes of the whole world. So many reasons that make France the world’s leading tourist destination and it’s not the American singer Cher who will say otherwise.
At 78 years old, the artist from California continues his incredible career and these days publishes the first part of his autobiography, Cher: The Autobiography, Part 1 (Harper Collins, 2024). This Thursday, December 19, the one who feared the worst for her son Elijah gave an interview to Parisian to discuss her links with France, she who notably recorded an album in a castle in Bordeaux in 2000. “I have lots of good memories in France. I’ve been vacationing there all my lifein Cannes, then in Saint-Tropez. We feel free when we are at home”, remembers the singer, before adding: “I met there Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan… Brigitte Bardot invited me to dinner several times. The first, in the 1980s, she took me to a garden where we were alone with a guitarist. She was standing against a wall and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m with Brigitte Bardot!’.”
Cher wants to be buried in Père-Lachaise
The American, madly in love with her very young rapper boyfriend, even wants to be buried in France. “I really wantbut I think it’s not possible when you don’t live in Paris. I went there with friends, and I saw the funerary monument of Héloïse and Abelard, which I adore”assures Cher, before revealing the cemetery in which she wishes to rest: “Père-Lachaise is an incredible placewe spent hours there. And I said to myself: ‘I absolutely have to be buried here.’ I hope my wish comes true.”
If she wishes to be buried in Paris, the singer in a relationship with a man 40 years younger than her, has not performed in France for several years now. “I haven’t sung anywhere in Europe for a long time. But since Covid, I have not remained inactive, I made a Christmas album last year, I am working on a new record. I will do concerts afterwards. I would like it to be a global tour because it will be my last”says Cher.
