Chido sowed chaos in the small archipelago of Mayotte where the latest report, this Thursday, December 19, 2024, shows a dramatic situation with 14 dead and 250 injured.
“This is one of the most powerful tropical cyclones that the island has experienced in 90 years,” recalled the mayor of Saint-Malo Gilles Lurton at the opening of the municipal council this evening.
Solidarity is being organized on the ground despite degraded conditions. The emergency concerns the relief of victims, the provision of essential goods, the clearance and the restoration of vital infrastructure.

The corsair city also intends to make its contribution to this surge of solidarity. She approached the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) which set up the “AMF/Mayotte Solidarity” monitoring and support system, in partnership with Civil Protection. “We propose to urgently release a credit of 5,000 euros for the benefit of the National Federation of Civil Protection”.
The proposal was unanimously approved by the 43 elected officials of the municipal council.
Aid of a similar amount will be requested from Saint-Malo Agglomération.
The French flag which flies over the town hall keep will be flown at half-mast on Monday, December 23, a day of national mourning.
