Nothing has been decided on the subject, in a time which is still that of reflection. But the busy calendar of Breton festivities is nothing new, forcing the Cornouaille window to Quimper from July 24 to 27, 2025. Vieilles Charrues the previous weekend; Bout du monde and Interceltique festival at neighboring Lorient the next.
Arrival of the second stage of the Women’s Tour de France
But, completely new and unprecedented, a strong constraint will mark the life of Quimper this last weekend of July: on Sunday 27, the city of Odet will be the arrival city of the second stage of the Women’s Tour de France departing from Brest . And incidentally, arrival day of the men’s Tour de France in Paris…
However, the great Cornouaille parade traditionally takes place on Sunday. So suffice to say, the co-presidency of the festival is scratching its head in the face of an equation, with several unknowns at the moment.
Synchronization or…
Is synchronization of the women’s cycling event and the Cornouaille high mass possible? “There are both general questions of security and compatibility with the organization of the Women’s Tour. But also an issue on the possibilities of access to the city center for parade spectators,” calmly observes Éric Vighetti, co-president of the Quimper festival alongside Lénaïg Le Roux and Laure Cavret-Dorval. They also wonder about the possible competition brought by the very popular event that remains the arrival of the Tour de France even when experienced in front of television.
…another place or day?
Other avenues of reflection would be that of relocating the big parade. In space: solutions could, for example, be imagined in line with a 2025 edition of Cornouaille which will almost exclusively take place on the right bank in the streets of historic Quimper, between Saint-Corentin and the François-Mitterrand esplanade via the bank of Steïr. In time: a day other than Sunday, between Thursday 24 and Saturday 26. All these scenarios seem open to reflection. That of an exceptional cancellation of the 2025 parade has, until now, never been mentioned.
