Éric Perrot one tenth from the flower ceremony despite a 10/10
The incessant encouragement from the French public was not enough to carry the Blues to the podium.
While Martin Uldal was already hovering over the debates, Eric Perrot was the first Frenchman to perform flawlessly against the targets. His 10/10, however, was not enough to join the race for victory. He only set the 22nd race time, a performance all the more frustrating as the top 6 only eluded him by a tenth.
The winner of the Kontiolahti mass start took provisional third place before being relegated in the hierarchy by the arrivals of Johannes Thingnes Boe (2nd), Sebastian Samuelsson (3rd), Sturla Holm Laegreid (5th) and Philipp Nawrath ( 6th).
“I wish I could have stood in front of the audience and celebrated a little. We will have to wait. I’m happy, I had a good race, up to what I wanted to do. We are missing a little bit to look a little further ahead,” he reacted to the microphone of The Team Channel.
The first Frenchman of the day, he led a French contingent very present in the top 10.
Quentin Fillon Maillet didn’t come far from imitating his 10/10, but his very last ball didn’t hit the mark. With a 9/10, he finally ranked 10th, 8.1 seconds behind his young compatriot. Between the two, we find Émilien Jacquelin in seventh place. He paid dearly for the mistake made during each shooting session. The native of Grenoble still demonstrated once again his excellent current form by being the only biathlete with two faults in the top 12 of this men’s sprint.
No French flag rose in the sky of Grand Bornand for Thursday, December 19, but the French public stood up for the exploits of its biathletes during this first race of the weekend.
