Let there be light! – Deprived of light in their neighborhood for three years, some residents of Limoges are delighted with the mayor’s announcement
While public lighting has been turned off in certain neighborhoods since 2021, the mayor of Limoges (Haute-Vienne), Émile Roger Lombertie, is reversing this decision, switching from everything to everything. The latter now wants the street lights of his city to be constantly lit, report our colleagues from Popular of the Center.
The initiative was announced by the municipality in June 2021. Elected officials aimed for a reduction of 250,000 euros on the annual electricity bill, by turning off public lighting in certain districts of Limoges, between 11:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. An idea which did not really appeal to the main stakeholders.
Street lamps equipped with LEDs
Indeed, residents of the areas concerned complained of growing insecurity. Three years later, the councilor heard them and finally decided to change the original plan. The latter now wants all districts of Limoges to be lit at night.
But the economic aspect has not been forgotten: the street lamps will all be equipped with LED bulbs. The mayor explained that these new installations will be associated with a dimmer.
