The weather is terrible this Thursday, December 19, 2024 in part of Brittany. The four departments are placed on yellow alert by Météo France. Gusts of 100 km/h are forecast on the coasts.
What will the weather be like for these end-of-year celebrations in Brittany? “The wind will give way to calm for Christmas,” warns Sébastien Decaux, forecaster at Météo Bretagne.
Mild temperatures
Indeed, an anticyclone (pressure greater than 1,035 hPa) will position itself over the Atlantic during the day of Wednesday December 25, 2024.
The entire west of France is affected.
No snow, no ice, no storm at Christmas, but mild weather. Expect between 7 and 10 degrees at night and early morning across the region. All weather models converge towards these conditions.
Between 10 and 14 degrees in the afternoon
After the foie gras and turkey, you will be able to plan your little digestive stroll. The thermometer will oscillate between 10 and 14 degrees across the entire region on Christmas Day.
Here are the temperatures forecast in the main Breton cities for the afternoon of Wednesday December 25, 2024:
- Brest: 13 degrees
- Dinan: 13 degrees
- Quimper: 14 degrees
- Ferns: 10 degrees
- Lannion: 14 degrees
- Lorient: 14 degrees
- Loudéac: 12 degrees
- Pontivy: 13 degrees
- Rennes: 11 degrees
- Saint-Brieuc: 13 degrees
- Saint-Malo: 13 degrees
- Valves: 13 degrees
- Glazed: 10 degrees
Softness with a gray sky
The softness is there with a gray sky. “We will have very dense cloud cover, with little hope of seeing clearings,” continues Sébastien Decaux.
In summary, we shouldn’t see much of the sun! Mist and a little drizzle could complete these forecasts. “In our jargon, we say that the weather is filthy,” adds the meteorologist.
For the New Year, weather patterns may still shift, but we shouldn’t feel any cold for the last day of the year.
