The City of Lyon has chosen to retain a single operator for the operation of self-service scooters, but reserves the possibility of a new call for projects.
While last October, Lyon Capitale announced that the City of Lyon was to launch a new call for projects for the operation of self-service scooters, the municipality announced this Thursday, December 19 that it had chosen to keep a single operator. The City of Lyon also specifies that this decision was taken in order to “to ensure better regulation of public space and a better overall service.” The possibility of a new call for projects is however not excluded by the town hall, “if it considers that the level of service to Lyonnaises requires it.”
As a reminder, the two current operators, Dott and TIER Mobility, had authorization to occupy the public domain until 2027 after a previous call for projects launched in 2023. Last November, TIER Mobility announced that it would merge with the Dott brand to gradually retain only the latter. As of January 1, 2025, the Dott company will therefore be the sole operator and will take over the fleet of scooters operated until now by TIER Mobility to be “re-dressed.” 3,500 machines will be made available to Lyon residents, compared to the 4,000 currently available. Little change therefore for users who will simply have to redirect to the new application available.
