Olympic and the Swiss Cup, it’s already over

Olympic will not achieve the treble this season. The Friborg basketball players were eliminated Wednesday evening in the round of 16 of the Swiss Cup by Geneva. A 91 to 88 loss in overtime. Thibaut Petit’s players appeared tired and lacked lucidity at times.

We didn’t have the defensive intensity we should have. Fatigue should not count

Met at the end of the game, the Friborg captain did not want to make excuses.

The game was played in front of just over 1,000 spectators at the Saint-Léonard hall.

Defense

Leading by 7 points at the break (36-29), Olympic unfortunately did not manage to defend as well in the second half. The Fribourgeois conceded 50 points in the 2nd half. Trailing by 3 points a few seconds from the end of the 4th quarter, Thibaut Petit’s team was able to equalize (79-79) thanks to a 3-point basket from Natan Jurkovitz scored just a second from the end!

In overtime, the defending champion took the lead, before breaking down. Led by Jaqualyn Gilbreath (29 points), Geneva was more adept at shooting, including 11 long-range baskets.

Match statistics

For Olympic, we will now have to digest this first defeat of the season in Switzerland. What’s next? One last match before the end-of-year holidays is scheduled for this Saturday against Pully, 3rd in the championship. To end the year with a smile?
