TRANSFER. 3 matches, 3 tries, Stade Toulousain, UBB and compete for this 19-year-old nugget

Three matches, three tries. The kid from the Basque Country is not doing half-heartedly for his debut in the Top 14. At only 19 years old, Xan Mousquès is panicking the counters… and the recruiters. Used on the wing this season by , the full-back is already turning heads at the biggest clubs. And for good reason, he is at the end of his contract next June. So, who will manage to afford their services?

Xan Mousques, the little Basque who dynamited the (best) defenses of the Top 14

A phenomenon that shines under pressure

In three small appearances, Mousquès scored as many tries, including a striking double against at the end of October. Then, on November 3, it was against Stade Toulousain that he distinguished himself. Result: a remarkable performance which even caught the eye of Ugo Mola. In this young U20 international (7 caps), there is talent to spare… and a great flair for timing. But history could well be written far from the Basque Country.

The Bayonne puzzle

Barred at the back by Cheikh Tiberghien, Yohan Orabé and Tom Spring, Mousquès was repositioned on the wing by the sky and white staff. A temporary solution? Not sure. Because on Jean Dauger’s side, the hierarchy seems established, and names like Mateo Carreras or Nadir Megdoud successfully occupy the wings.

If the Rowing leaders offered him an extension, “the Mousquès file” seems to lean in favor of leaving. A logical decision for the player, looking for regular playing time at his preferred position.

UBB, , : the battle is on

Among the contenders, three teams stand out. According to South WestUnion Bègles is in pole position. With the announced departures of Nans Ducuing and Ben Tapuai, and the frequent absences of internationals Buros, Penaud and Bielle-Biarrey during doubles, the UBB offers Mousquès an enticing prospect: that of fully expressing himself at the back.

But the Girondins are not alone. Stade Rochelais, looking for a successor to Brice Dulin, has also advanced its pawns. A first meeting even took place, arousing the interest of the Bayonne gem. Finally, Toulouse is keeping a close eye on this young talent who could expand its already well-stocked squad.

An inevitable departure?

Bayonne could regret losing Mousquès, who embodies both the youth and the dynamism of the club. After locking in the extensions of Esteban Capilla and Pierre Castillon, it is a hard blow for Rowing. But due to lack of guaranteed playing time, Nafarroa’s kid looks ready to take flight.
