Kédougou Dec 19 (APS) – More than 400 cataract patients were operated on free of charge during a cataract surgery camp organized at the Amath Dansokho Regional Hospital Center in Kédougou, the director of this regional health structure told APS , Elhadji Amadou Dieng.
This surgery camp is organized by the Ministry of Health and Social Action through the Disease Control Department, in partnership with the NGO Direct Aid Society and the NGO Eye of the World.
”These three days devoted to this surgery camp made it possible to operate on more than 400 patients out of a consultation of 1,200 patients,” he said.
Elhadji Amadou Dieng. spoke at the closing of the surgery camp in the presence of the Direct Aïd Society coordinator Mouhamadou Moctar Dieng and the consultant to the humanitarian organization “Eye of the world Team”, Salah Helmy and Egyptian surgeons.
He indicated that in Senegal, each year, 50,000 cases of cataract are recorded. “Sick people, he noted, often have difficulties and problems in seeking treatment because of treatment which is very expensive.”
Taking stock of the care offered free of charge to patients during these three days, he considered that this initiative “was an excellent feat”.
”It’s an excellent feat because after biometrics which made it possible to know the type of implant for each patient in a specific way, we were able to do +phaco imilfiaction+ (lacere), modern techniques for skin care. cataract which allowed us to take care of 400 patients at the hospital level,” said the director of the regional hospital center Amath Dansokho.
The coordinator of the NGO Direct Aid Society, Mouhamadou Moctar Dieng, highlighted “the lasting collaboration” with the Ministry of Health and Social Action of Senegal.
”We have a collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Action, which dates back to 2000, and it is the ministry which gives guidelines within the framework of each surgery camp, and we act according to its guidelines,’ Mr. Dieng emphasized.
