She will be one of the young athletes to follow during the Athletics Meeting organized at the Maryvonne-Dupureur hall in Saint-Brieuc, this Saturday, December 21. Briochine Candice Robert (18 years old), who will compete in the 60m hurdles, 200m and the long jump competition, hopes to perform at home during these Winter Meetings.

On the Maryvonne-Dupureur track, which she knows perfectly from training there all year round, Candice Robert has a little idea in mind: “I hope to beat my record and improve my time on the hurdles”tells us the one who ran the 60m hurdles in 9”17 last February. It must be said that at 18 years old, the young athlete continues to progress. After discovering the orange track late in life, the native of Saint-Brieuc made a name for herself in combined events.

From basketball to athletics

“I only started athletics three years ago. I used to play basketball but I wanted to change. I arrived at the club and Vincent (The Dauphin, his trainer) introduced me to a bit of all the specialties. I started with 400m hurdles then moved to combined events after a year, retrace Candice Robert. I like it because it’s original and there is no form of routine in the workouts. »

The specificity of the discipline? Be able to complete several events without the slightest physical or mental relaxation. “I’m used to it because I regularly do combined events. When you do a pentathlon, you compete in 5 events in the same day, poses the one following a STAPS license in parallel with the competition. But it’s true that depending on how an event goes, you have to immediately focus on the next one. If you beat your record, or on the contrary had a bad performance, you have to be able to put all that aside and refocus on what’s next. »

Her good performances took her to the French junior championships last March. An experience that she wishes to repeat as quickly as possible: “I set myself the goal of competing in the French championships every year and, if possible, reaching the finals. » A good run at the national level will require good results from this Saturday, December 21, in Saint-Brieuc.
