« IIt is very important for me, through this show, to convey a message of resistance », says Roman Khavizov, at the origin of the Inshi circus, about Dreamswhich takes up residence on Thursday December 19 at the Théâtre des Salins. “ With this show, we want to share what we understood while going through the ordeal of war, which may seem very simple put like this, but which is very important: we must live each day as if it were the last and appreciate the life in times of peace because, tomorrow, war could come “, summarizes this director exiled in France in 2022 “ because of the war which made any work impossible for artists in Ukraine “. Comments reported by journalist Anaïs Héluin shortly after the latter found a team of circus performers in France with whom he had previously worked in his native country. Upon his arrival in France, an approach made possible in particular by the Territoires de cirque association, which brings together professionals of the genre and allows him to continue to chart his artistic path far from home.
Marked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he brings together in this creation seven talents from the kyiv National Circus School: ball jugglers Vladyslav Holda and Kostiantyn Korostylenko, ring juggler David Yemishian , the acrobat Andrii Humeniuk, the cane balancing artist Anton Manaharov, as well as Maksym Vakhnytski on the smooth rope. For a piece that combines circus and dance in a furious movement of life. Among them, “ only two had ever practiced the dance. Everyone else learned here with me and a dance master who works at the Moulin Rouge », underlines Roman Khavizov, who describes the piece as “ very physical and intense. Dreams speaks of the persistence of hope, of the desire to live despite the war ».
Vivaldi, traditional tunes
With a view to this great choreographic circus, Roman Khavizov has chosen for his performers to follow the pulsations of the Four seasons by Vivaldi. In this score created in 1724 by the Italian Baroque composer, notably the emblematic The test of harmony and invention (“The confrontation between harmony and invention”), rather than the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. “ I wanted a piece rich in emotion hence this choice, as well as traditional Ukrainian pieces. For me, classical music is the one that makes hearts vibrate the most. », estimates the designer of Dreams. “A story of tenacity and virtuosity. The testimony of a youth overthrown by a warlike conflict and a formidable example of the demands and high quality of the Ukrainian circus,” states the national scene of Martigues.
