A Lyon network for the resale of stolen and then disguised vehicles supplied the whole of France

From the Lyon suburbs, the sector supplied all of France. It was a motorhome stolen at the end of spring, disguised and put back into circulation which aroused the curiosity of the police. The investigation, opened and carried out by the Saint-Genis-Laval brigade, finally made it possible to highlight “the existence of a system dedicated to laundering stolen vehicles”. A well-organized system, with the assistance of a professional based in the south of France. The latter had an approval which allowed him to carry out registrations. The vehicles were thus sold with papers apparently in order.

Seizures throughout France

The man was identified by investigators in July and arrested. The documents found during the search confirmed the fraud. Judicial investigations then made it possible to pull the wires to identify around a hundred suspicious vehicles throughout the national territory. The damage would exceed four million euros, according to police estimates.

This information was used to trigger a large-scale operation across the country on Monday, December 9. Verifications, hearings, seizures and removal of around forty previously identified vehicles were carried out by the military. These vehicles were authenticated as stolen and disguised. While the investigation continues in Saint-Genis-Laval, others have been opened elsewhere to trace the chain.
