How is the RAGNI GROUP innovating to modernize public lighting?
Stéphane Ragni: Our group’s mission is to reinvent public lighting and support communities in their energy transition. For this, we have designed a complete offer: solar street lights for isolated areas, connected lighting to optimize consumption, lighting that respects biodiversity. These tailor-made solutions allow metropolises and small towns alike to light less but better while reducing their footprint on the environment.
Is sustainable public lighting already a reality?
Absolutely! Since 2008, LED has taken a big step towards sustainability by reducing energy consumption and offering better longevity. Innovations such as connected lighting, capable of switching off or intensifying depending on real needs, make it possible to go even further. Just like the warm or amber shades of lighting, without blue light, which reduce the impact of night light on insects and other sensitive species. This is real progress! However, in France, only 30% of the public lighting fleet has been modernized. So there is still a lot to do!
What are the concrete benefits of these innovations for communities and citizens?
With our solutions, communities can significantly reduce their energy consumption, and therefore their costs, while reducing their carbon footprint and light pollution. Thanks to connected lighting fixtures, they can monitor their consumption in real time, detect breakdowns and plan maintenance operations. But beyond the technical aspects, these innovations transform the relationship between citizens and their nighttime environment by reconciling comfort, security and respect for the ecosystem.
What next? What are your future plans?
For us, acting as a responsible industrialist also means leading our own strategy with concrete objectives, such as reducing our carbon emissions by 18% per year. We are inaugurating a new factory in June 2025 in Tourrettes and we are also preparing to become a company with a mission, by including our environmental and societal commitments in our statutes. This approach, adopted by around 1,800 companies in France, of which only 3% are industrialists, reflects our desire to combine innovation, performance and responsibility to illuminate not only the streets, but also the choices of territories in the face of environmental issues. The RAGNI GROUP with BNP Paribas believes in a necessary transformation of our business models, which we are realizing through our participation in the CSR Club that the bank initiated in partnership with KPMG.
