Louis Ménard and Guy Saint-Jacques appointed to the Order of Canada

Retired professor from the Department of Accounting Sciences at ESG UQAM Louis Ménard and fellow from the Montreal Institute of International Studies (IEIM) Guy Saint-Jacques are among the 88 personalities who were named to the Order of Canada on December 18. Created in 1967, the Order of Canada is one of the most prestigious civilian honors in the country. It recognizes outstanding achievements, a person’s remarkable dedication to the community or an extraordinary contribution to the nation.

Louis Ménard is one of the pillars of the accounting profession in Canada. The retired professor has made a unique contribution to academia, the accounting profession and the business community by developing expertise in terminology research. He has published works which have become essential, including the Dictionary of accounting and financial managemente, internationally recognized as the terminological reference in accounting and finance. He was inducted into the Canadian Accounting Hall of Fame of the Canadian Association of Accounting Teachers in 2022.

A federal civil servant for nearly four decades, Guy Saint-Jacques dedicated his career to public service. Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada in Beijing, he is considered one of the greatest experts on China. He has also been very active in the environmental field, notably serving as Canada’s chief negotiator and ambassador for climate change. THE fellow of the IEIM received the rank of officer of the Order of Quebec in 2023.
