Dakar, Dec 19 (APS) – Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye asked the Prime Minister and the government to work with local authorities to bring the naming of our streets, avenues, boulevards and public buildings into line with historical facts and our national heroes, we learn from the press release from the Council of Ministers.
“The President of the Republic wants the naming of streets, avenues, boulevards and public buildings to be in line with the historical facts and national heroes who have unanimously marked the life of our country,” reports the text.
The same source recalled that the presence of the Head of State in Thiès during the inauguration of the statue of Lat Dior erected by the city of Thiès “symbolizes his particular attachment to the promotion of our historical and cultural heritage”.
President Faye called for the “preservation of an assumed national narrative which takes into account our centuries-old traditional values, based on a culture of memory and the celebration of our national heroes in all areas”.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye also asked Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to rehabilitate and promote the historical heritage of our towns and cities.
In this spirit, he indicated to the Minister in charge of Culture Khady Diène Gaye and to the Secretary of State in charge of historical heritage, Bakary Sarr “the need to work on the rehabilitation of the heritage of the islands, in particular Gorée (Dakar) and Carabane (Ziguinchor, south) in close collaboration with municipal authorities and populations.
He thus invited Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to “initiate reflection on the creation of a national council for memory and the management of historical heritage in order to make the preservation of our history a major factor in economic and social development. and culture of Senegal”.
