a rally to demand equal rights

This December 18th is International Migrants Day. Many associations and unions have called for a rally. In , demonstrators gathered at the foot of the Merten Column, a few steps from Place de la République.

There are around forty of them who remind us that they do not want “a racist society. We want real equality of rights for our neighbors, office colleagues, workshop colleagues, our classmates, our doctor, our baker, the girlfriend or classmate of our girls, our boys… . We live together, and do not conceive of society other than in respect of what binds us. These major principles must translate into effective access to all rights for all; by welcoming and valuing the diversity that makes our country rich, of all countries: by developing solidarity for and with those who need it. Foreign workers, exiled people, international students… Whether they arrived yesterday or 20 years ago, they all find themselves the target of migration policies which see the foreigner as a potential criminal, a “undesirable”.
The immigration law of January 2024 and the European Pact on Migration and Asylum have further radicalized repressive and brutal policies, generalizing administrative mistreatment,” they agree in a press release signed by the Mrap (Movement Against Racism) , Solidaires , the Human Rights League and Amnesty International.
