‘I wanted to right an injustice’: This application from Tarn guides students through the jungle of orientation

Three engineers graduated from IMT-Mines d’ have created a revolutionary application which helps students and soon French high school students find their way in the jungle of Parcoursup.

Students, Antoine Landraing, Omer and Achille Boutiller were confronted with “painful experiences” in terms of orientation. To respond to this “anxious” observation, they combined their skills to create a tool simplifying access to information and training choices.

Antoine Landraing, president of Hopteo, remembers his mistakes caused by his lack of knowledge of Parcoursup. “Coming from a disadvantaged social background, I did not have the same assets as other students, better informed and guided by their parents. I was in total limbo and I wanted to repair this injustice with the creation of Hopteo.”

The resident Antoine Landraing, 26, then crossed paths with two twin brothers from , Omer and Achille Boutiller, 24, on the benches of IMT-Mines in Albi. Having become general engineers specializing in data and artificial intelligence (AI), the three friends quickly shared their experiences and decided to work on a solution accessible to any student with the aim of reducing social inequalities. “We really wanted all high school and college students to be able to extricate themselves from the guidance jungle. And Hopteo was created for this in February 2024.”

They designed their solution based on a questionnaire sent to 500 students to identify their orientation needs, namely a simple, customizable and complete application. “Hopteo allows you to create a first filter in the orientation process,” emphasizes Antoine Landraing. “But this is precisely what takes the most time.”

The principle of the application is subtly simple to follow. By responding to a series of cards, each student can indicate their selection criteria, ambitions and objectives. “He then has access to a personalized classification of training courses dedicated to his criteria and can thus freely visit the descriptive pages of these training courses: major schools, universities…”, explains Omer Boutiller. Driven by their success, the three entrepreneurs hosted at Innoprod in Albi have already recruited five work-study students and hired one person on a permanent contract.

A high school version available mid-January

Hopteo is currently a free app for students, which is based on partnerships with schools. In exchange for a subscription, the latter obtain access to information giving them the possibility of directing their training offers and adapting them to the needs of students.

“Long before launching Hopteo,” recalls Achille Boutiller, “we thought that everyone should have the ambition to find their way without necessarily going through the major schools. It’s not just money that plays the role of social elevator. We also benefit from the support of many teachers, in short, we want it to delight users while maintaining essential values ​​in our eyes such as fairness, transparency and ambition.”

And with success, if Hopteo already represents a highly sought-after aid that can be easily downloaded by students, it will also be available from mid-January for all high school students in . With this future high school version, the application will also list the 30,000 training courses listed on Parcoursup. Enough to see the future calmly for the three young “dads” of Hopteo.
