Women’s League A: heroic but vain resistance for Volley in

Women’s A League. Volley 29: 3-2

After returning to victory by winning 3-0 at Marcq-en-Barœul last Saturday, the Quimperoises were keen to continue their momentum against Volley Mulhouse Alsace on Wednesday. They almost led two sets to zero before seeing their hopes disappear… then reappearing in a crazy match that they lost in the tie-break.

A crazy rise… in vain

However, François-Xavier Garnon’s players started the match at a hundred miles an hour. With a crazy success in attack from Mariia Kaplanska and Madsen, and services from Meliushkyna and Martin which shattered the VMA reception, Quimper took the first set (17-25) and even led 15-10 in the second set .

But things got tough afterwards and the Quimper ship began to rock.

However, the Bretons saved three set points and got one at 25-24, before giving in on the wire (29-27). The turning point of the match, we thought. Because Quimper saw itself left behind in the third round.

Manhandled by the Mulhousiennes in the fourth act (4-8), the Quimperoises came back from nowhere and clung in this match like a mussel to its rock. And the improbable happened: through self-sacrifice, Quimper saved two match points, won the set (26-28) and opened the doors to the tie-break.

Riding the wave, Martin and her teammates took off (4-0) and got closer to victory. But it was the VMA’s turn to not give up (5-6) and turn the tide to finally win 15-10 and leave Quimper with regrets at the end of a fight lasting more than 2 hours 30 minutes.
