Since the beginning of December, theavenue Charles Péguy is in turmoil in Melun (Seine-et-Marne). THE preparatory work upon arrival of Zen2 began, leading to a drastic reorganization of parking. A situation which gives rise misunderstandings et discontent among the residentsforced to find solutions to park their vehicles for six months. Everyone fears a deterioration of their comfort of life during this long construction period. The town hall responds.

A contested organization

As early as November, the first signs announcing the impoundment of vehicles parked on the avenue appeared. Work was to begin on November 18, but the hasty announcement surprised the residents, as Catherine, also a resident of the neighborhood, testifies: “We didn’t have enough time to organize. In addition, they had not given a solution. »

Faced with protests, the project was ultimately postponed. However, this period of reprieve was not enough to ease tensions. The resumption of work at the beginning of December meant that the parking lot had to be removed again. Immediately, the subject came back into focus. “Every day, around 120 vehicles are parked in the street, a figure which rises further on Thursdays, market day on Place Picot,” assures Catherine.

The town hall has proposed temporary parking spaces, notably on Place Picot or on Rue Étienne Gilson, just above and little used. But these proposals come up against several limits.

On the one hand, the Thursday market further complicates the situation: “Every week, we will have to find a new place on Wednesday to free up space for the stalls,” worries the resident.

It’s going to be a mess again!

On the other hand, these solutions do not take into account the needs of neighborhood users, such as students from the neighboring high school who come by car or visitors to the market. “We can’t even leave the car to collect our groceries for a few minutes. It’s going to be a hassle for people with strollers or those who have difficulty walking,” she fears.

For some, the most logical solution would have been to temporarily move the market. Even if that doesn’t solve everything, “that’s already it”, breathes the Melunaise.

A long wait and worries

The work, announced to last until June 2025, is accompanied by a major fear: delays. “We are already worried that it will take longer than expected. Does that mean we’re going to be in this mess for six months? ! », asks Catherine.

Beyond the daily inconveniences, it is the lack of communication that is most criticized. Residents regret the absence of meetings or discussions to anticipate difficulties. “We would have liked to have been informed much further in advance, rather than discovering this a few days before the start of the work,” laments the local resident.

While residents try to adapt as best they can, the town hall will undoubtedly have to adjust its organization to limit nuisances. In the meantime, on Avenue Charles Péguy, everyone is learning to juggle constraints and improvised solutions, with a question on everyone’s lips: how long will this last?

Contacted, the town hall provided some details. “There are several dozen places that have been eliminated with this project. It began on December 9 and condemns 80 places,” we are told. This number of places

The municipality is aware of the problems that this type of work can cause and has therefore presented alternatives: “We have given residents the possibility of parking on the Picot market square outside of the market. We also know that it gets dark early and in order to make rue Étienne Gilson more passable. We are in the process of installing lighting,” they add.

The market is two days a week, only a few hours.

On the other hand, on the proposal to change the location of the market, the town hall does not wish to reconsider its choice: “It is far too complicated to change a location of the market. These are economic issues and we need specific access to electricity and water. »

Residents will then have to grit their teeth and manage to adopt new reflexes as quickly as possible so that these next six months can go as smoothly as possible.
