This is one of the new features of the end-of-year festivities in Quimper (Finistère): a farmers’ Christmas parade, scheduled for Saturday December 21 at 7 p.m., by the farmers’ unions Jeunes Agriculteurs (JA) and FDSEA. A first in Cornwall.

A dozen tractors

A dozen tractors, decorated with Christmas garlands, will stroll through the city. Starting from Boulevard de Kerguelen, they will parade along Rue du Parc then along Rue Amiral-Ronarc’h, to arrive at the François-Mitterrand esplanade.

The public will discover a great free tasting of local products. On the menu: cold cuts, meat, dairy products and even pancakes.

“A positive manifestation”

The unions wish to recreate a link with consumers, with the aim of re-teaching them how to manger local.

“It is the consumer who directs the transformer. So if our processors see that the consumer tends to buy local then maybe they will stop importing so much.”

Maxime Da Rocha, representative of Young Farmers.
