A very original activity is taking place this Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pôle Chabran, in the premises of the Departmental Archives: an escape game. We owe this event to the team managed by the Department.
Surprising fact: despite the places, sometimes considered austere, many young people have already registered.
Interview with Marie-Anne Carletti, head of cultural activity at the Archives.
The Archives is not an ordinary place to organize an escape game. What motivated you?
We often have the image of archives as a somewhat “dusty” place, but the desire of the Archives, through its mission of promotion and through its cultural activities, is to offer adapted and accessible activities. to all audiences in order to introduce them to archival documents. With the escape game, we are setting out to conquer a new audience.
Who do you want to reach and why?
Through the escape game, it is young adolescents that we wish to attract so that they can discover the Archives, this place rich in their local and perhaps family history; the archive documents, the building, the reading room, the thematic workshops…
Is there a particular theme?
The theme concerns the Second World War (in connection with our temporary exhibition “The Landing in Provence, from the Resistance to the return of the Republic”, exhibition extended until July 4, 2025). The participants are tasked with going back in time to World War II and preventing the arrests that will occur.
How will the experience actually take place?
We take the classic stages of the escape game: in a closed room, a first phase of searching to find clues, then a phase of assembling the objects or information found and finally solving puzzles, all over a period of time. limit. The clues come from our archival documents.
Reaching a young audience is complicated. How are you going to get them to come back? A partnership with schools and educational establishments?
A number of young people are already aware of the Archives through workshops (1789 Cahiers de doléances workshop, current calligraphy workshop, preparation of a workshop dedicated to the notebooks of grievances of the Liberation) and activities within the school framework (primary middle and high school) and in connection with teachers and National Education programs. We have a very mobilized and active educational service. A project with the Draguignan law faculty is underway.
