FC Nantes seems on the verge of sacking its current coach Antoine Kombouare after a series of poor results, with only one victory in the last 12 games. The heavy 4-1 defeat against Brest this weekend could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for Nantes leaders who are seriously considering a change of coach.
The end of the Kombouaré era?
According to information from L’Équipe and Ouest-France, Antoine Kombouareaged 61 and returned to the club in March 2024, is strongly threatened by this series of poor performances. The media indicate that the trend is clearly towards a departure of the French technician, despite his status as an emblematic former player of FC Nantes. The leaders seem to have lost patience with the poor results of the team.
Sergio Conceiçao, the priority of the Canary Islands
To replace Kombouaré, Sergio Conceição seems to be the track favored by FC Nantes according to L’Équipe. The 48-year-old Portuguese coach, currently at FC Portois considered the number 1 option for Nantes management. However, other names like Habib Beye, Philippe Montanier and Claude Puel were also mentioned by Ouest-France as potential alternatives.
A thunderbolt in the transfer window
This change of coach during the season could prove to be a real thunderbolt on the coaches transfer window. Although negotiations are still ongoing, the arrival of a renowned technician like Conceiçao could breathe new life into FC Nantes and revive their ambitions for the second part of the season.
