While the Association of Mayors of Vaucluse (AMV) has decided to donate exceptional aid of €50,000 to the victims of Mayotte, the City of Avignon has just announced equivalent aid.
“Faced with this terrible disaster, and as it does with every humanitarian disaster, the City of Avignon intends to stand alongside all Mahorais,” explains Cécile Helle, mayor of Avignon. As always, unfortunately, it is the most vulnerable populations who pay the high price: entire villages, where precarious housing predominates, are today devastated; communication routes and main facilities (hospital, airport, etc.) were destroyed; many residents are deprived of electricity, water and even food. A humanitarian and health catastrophe is to be feared, and we must act quickly! »
This emergency aid of €50,000 will be submitted to the vote of municipal elected officials by the mayor of the city of the Popes during the municipal council which will take place next Saturday, December 21.
The amount of emergency aid will pass through the National Civil Protection Federation. It will supplement the solidarity system of municipalities and intercommunities in mainland France and overseas implemented by the Association of Mayors of France to help the people of Mahor.
