Last November, the Saint-Germain clinic, located in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines), announced its intention to close the doors of its maternity ward, but no date had yet been set. It is now done.
Christmas Eve
The establishment has just indicated on its Facebook page that the service will be “permanently” closed “from the evening of December 24, 2024”.
“The last admissions to the birthing room will be on Friday December 20, 2024.”
The symbol is strong knowing that the maternity ward will close its doors on Christmas Eve.
The clinic adds that in the event of an emergency, patients are invited to go directly to Poissy hospital or to contact Samu (15).
The town has always had a maternity ward
This confirmation is a very hard blow for Saint-Germain-en-Laye where the announcement of the project had the effect of a bomb in this town which has always been able to have this type of service on its territory. Elected officials, led by the mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Arnaud Péricard, stepped up to the plate and moved heaven and earth to try to prevent this closure.
The councilor had increased contacts with the national management of Vivalto, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Île-de-France, as well as the Ministry of Health, to obtain explanations “on this brutal decision”.
“Evolving health needs”
A petition was even launched as soon as the intentions of the clinic having joined the Vivalto Santé group were announced in July 2017. But nothing happened.
To explain its decision, the clinic highlights a need to cope with the changing health needs of the region, mainly citing a “double tension on human resources and the decline in the birth rate”.
An entire territory concerned
This closure will create a shortage for the Saint-German territory, but also beyond. Because, remember that on March 23, 2021, the Saint-Germain clinic absorbed the maternity ward of the Saint-Louis clinic (Elsan group) located in the neighboring town of Poissy.
At the time, this merger took place in a context where the two clinics knew that one of them would have to separate from its maternity ward.
