Border police mobilized for Christmas at airport

NWe are going to increase our staffing level by 15 to 20%. We adapt to the flow of passengers »introduced Abdel Bouzelmat, head of the airport border police service. The Christmas period sees airport traffic increase. “We are going to organize classic patrols, others with the canine brigade and finally with teams in civilian clothes”presents Abdel Bouzelmat.

Because for the border police teams (190 agents), it is necessary to secure the car parks, the landside part of the terminals and the airside part. The airport has 4,500m² of commercial space and 90 shops. “We count 10 to 12 complaints per day for thefts and incivility, mainly on the landside part of the terminals. But there are also well-organized flights on the airside with malicious people who buy plane tickets, return with a empty suitcase and come out with a full suitcase”underlines the head of the Nice airport border police service.

1,500 cameras

“The elucidation rate is well over 50%. It’s a very good figure”enthuses Abdel Bouzelmat. They can count on the airport’s 1,500 cameras to conduct their investigations.

As part of the anti-holdup plan, border police officers are also raising awareness among traders so that they adopt the right actions. “Do not take any risks when confronting the attacker and remain calm. Memorize the description of the individual (clothing, build, distinctive signs), note the registration number, the make of their vehicle and their direction of escape. Identify all objects it touches Call 17” immediately.says Rabah Bairi, chief brigadier at the border police, to one of the traders. Bruno Lesage, manager of the Chez Jean store in terminal 2, knows “that busy periods are sensitive” and it was “equipped with video surveillance to deter and help the police arrest thieves”.
