The Dukes of Angers shone on Tuesday evening in the quarter-final of the Coupe de France. Three years after their last appearance at this stage of the competition, they outclassed an overwhelmed Nice team, winning with a clear score of 6-1.
A smashing start to the match
According to the Team, aware of the ascending form of the Niçois since November, the Angevins, second in the Magnus League, left no room for doubt. From the first minutes, they imposed their rhythm. Robin Gaborit, vigilant in recovery, allowed Matt Wilkins to deliver a masterful pass behind the defense to Braeden Shaw. With a precise backhand in the top corner, the latter opened the scoring at the 7th minute and 7 seconds (1-0).
A one-way second third
The second third marked the decisive turning point of the match. Nicolas Ritz, well placed in the slot, doubled the lead with a precise shot at the near post. Matt Prapavessis then worsened the score shortly after the half-hour mark (3-0, 29’54).
Despite a change of goalkeeper in the Nice ranks, the Eagles failed to reverse the trend. Téo Sarliève, perfectly positioned at the far post, fired a powerful shot, scoring a fourth goal (4-0, 33’46). Shortly before the end of the second third, Nicolas Ritz scored twice, bringing the score to 6-0 and sealing the fate of the match.
A mastered qualification
Nice saved the honor at the end of the match, but the gap was already too big to worry the Angevins. With this impressive victory, the Dukes of Angers have secured a deserved place in the last four of the Coupe de France.
