Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire. Teachers from the Pierre-Gilles-de-Gennes high school are taking action in favor of those affected by the floods in Spain. A hike in support of the victims of the province of Valencia, following the floods which affected the south of Spain on Tuesday October 29, took place on Sunday.
The idea emerged within the European section of the Pierre-Gilles-de-Gennes high school. The two Spanish teachers proposed expanding the idea within the establishment. Then, they decided to organize a hike on the island of Cosne, open to all.
A contribution of €5 was requested from hikers. Many of them contributed larger amounts.
The establishment’s student volunteers pitched in to help their teachers Mariella Lierena-Astorne and Stéphanie Brun. They held the cash register and handed out a piece of paper with a phone number written in case of emergency. They offered the walkers hot drinks and cakes which had been brought by the organizers and the high school students.
In half an hour, around sixty people were registered. Mariella Lierena-Astorne stipulated that “the funds will be provided for the reconstruction of primary schools in Catarrojo”, a small town south of Valencia. A second “pot” is open, the link can be found on the high school website.
