The Portuguese group ERT is about to open a new factory in Morocco

The ERT Group, a Portuguese multinational which produces components for car interiors and employs a thousand people – half in Portugal – will proceed with the construction of a new industrial unit in Morocco. Already having a factory in Tangier, the Portuguese company is “developing considerably” in Morocco, where it plans to double its turnover next year.

“We are expanding strongly in Morocco,” Alexandre Figueiredo, CEO of the group, told Portuguese media on the sidelines of the Portugal Exportador conference, which took place last Thursday in Santa Maria da Feira, and where he participated in a panel dedicated to the automotive industry.

Faced with growing customer demand, the company, which currently has an industrial unit in Tangier, Morocco, will build a second unit in Morocco, according to the manager.

“At the moment we have more projects being acquired, which will force us to create a second unit” in Morocco, declared Alexandre Figueiredo.

Without giving further details on the investment involved, the leader of the ERT group, which earns more than 100 million euros and exports 85% of its sales volume, also indicated that the decision on the details of this investment “will be taken next year. » and that, “in the space of a year or a year and a half”, it is possible to operate “the second factory”.

Even though the new project is not completed, the group is in talks for a “new activity” which will allow it to “double the production capacity” of its industrial unit in the country, from which it serves large suppliers of components that sell to the automotive sector, such as the giant Adient, according to the manager. “We are increasing the value chain in Morocco and adding value,” he explained.

Alexandre Figueiredo said that the factory acquired in the country “already has the possibility of doubling its capacity”, which will happen “as early as January”. “We will practically double the turnover in Morocco next year, to around 20 million euros,” he anticipates, noting that the group’s activity in the country continues to grow: “Our customers demand to open more factories.
