She is never far away in December: the tramontana will make his return to Perpignan and the Pyrenees-Orientales, announcement Weather France. After the storm which swept the department at the beginning of the month, new strong gusts of wind are expected in the coming days. And inevitably, the temperatures felt will be very cool.
More than 100km/h wind
The Catalans are used to it. The tramontane will blow again this week in the Pyrénées-Orientales. A northerly flow will sweep across France in the coming days, causing, as often, a return of the famous northwest wind to the department. The first gusts are expected from this Thursday, December 19late in the afternoon.
Gusts over 100km/h expected on the Roussillon plain and the coast. The values could even be higher on the most exposed reliefs and sectors. We should still not reach the intensity of the winds recorded on December 7, when peaks of 184 km/h were recorded at Cap Béar.
The tramontana will blow very strongly, also on Friday December 20, and it will then remain quite strong until the middle of next week and after Christmas, according to the latest forecasts.
Temperatures felt very cold
Sky-wise, this is the good news from this episode: the tramontana should chase away the clouds and there is plenty of sunshine ahead for the end of year celebrations. On the other hand, the temperatures felt will be particularly cold over the next few days.
According to The Weather Channelthe thermometer will display 7 to 8°C Thursday evening in Perpignan, but under the effect of the tramontane, the temperature felt will be barely 1°C. The feeling of cold will therefore be very present on the Roussillon plain, in the evening and in the morning in particular.
A little snow in the mountains
At the same time, further snowfall could occur in the upper cantons between Thursday and Friday. A few flakes are expected in Cerdagne and Capcir. Nothing compares, however, with the 50 centimeters of powder that fell last week in the Catalan ski resorts, which, as a reminder, will all be open from this Saturday, December 21.
