A spectacular escape from the Boulou toll
This Sunday, December 15, a motorist coming from Spain tried to escape a road check by the border police (PAF) at the small toll barrier at Boulou, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Faced with a refusal to comply, the driver fled at high speed on the A9 motorway, before finally being intercepted by the police in Perpignan.
Suspicious behavior that alerts the police
The incident occurred late in the afternoon, around 5 p.m., according to a police source confirmed by Actu Perpignan and Littoral FM. During a routine check, officers noticed a suspicious SUV. At the sight of the police, the driver suddenly changed course, made a U-turn, then returned to the A9 at high speed.
Despite the heavy traffic, the driver, alone on board, ignored the police’s orders and took dangerous maneuvers to try to evade the authorities. Alerted by the PAF, the national police of Perpignan deployed a team to intercept the suspect.
A drug shipment discovered in Perpignan
The chase ended in the Mailloles district of Perpignan, where the vehicle was blocked by the Intervention Section. In the back of the car, the police discovered a large shipment of cannabis resin, estimated at several hundred kilos (the exact weighing is in progress).
The driver, previously unknown to the police, was immediately taken into custody. The investigation was entrusted to the Perpignan Judicial Police to determine the circumstances and origin of the drugs.
The A9 motorway, a major route for drug trafficking
This new seizure is added to a long series of interceptions carried out on the A9 motorway, a strategic axis linking Spain to France. The Pyrénées-Orientales, the first French territory after the Spanish border, are particularly exposed to drug trafficking.
In recent weeks, Perthus customs officers and border police have increased drug discoveries, particularly in heavy goods vehicles. At the same time, refusals to comply are increasing, involving drivers ready to do anything to escape the police, risking their lives and those of other road users.
