80 years, 80 French Cup campaigns
A checkered start to the season
Promoted to National in the summer of 2023, FC Rouen finished 7th for his return in the 3th level of French football. Chis season, the Norman club is currently 9th at the break, after having notably changed coaches a few weeks ago. Régis Brouard replaced Maxime d’Ornano. Since then, the team has won 4 out of 4 matches (tcc). In the Coupe de France, FCR was exempt, therefore automatically qualified to 7th tour. Au 8ththe Rouennais eliminated AS Ginglin-Cesson (R1) (0-3).
Ichem Ferrah, the Rouennais from Lille
Born in Tourcoing, trained at LOSC and launched among the professionals under the Lille jersey (LOSC-Metz, 2-0, 03/12/23), Ichem Ferrah (19 years old) is flourishing this season at FC Rouen where he is on loan until next June. The young attacking midfielder has already played 13 games this season in the red jersey (tcc). He has just scored his first goal last weekend in the derby against Quevilly (2-0).
A classic from the 80s in the Coupe de France
The last time LOSC faced FC Rouen was in 1993, also in the Coupe de France. Chance of draws, the two teams regularly faced each other in the Coupe de France at the time. After a quarter-final in 1983 (LOSC won 2-0 in the first leg, 0-1 defeat in the return), then a round of 16 in 1985 (Lille won 2-1 in the first leg, then 0-0 in the return), Lille and Rouen also crossed swords in 1989 in the 16th round (LOSC won 4-0 in the first leg, 0-1 defeat in the return), then in 1993 in the 32nd round (Rouen won 1-0).
Arnaud Dos Santos, player and coach of both clubs
Among the many players to have worn both jerseys, Arnaud Dos Santos is the only one to have both played AND coached both teams. Midfielder for FC Rouen between 1966 and 1970, he then wore the colors of LOSC between 1977 and 1981. He then began his coaching career with the Dogues between 1982 and 1984 before sitting on the bench of the Norman club between 1986 and 1990.
Chedjou, Simon, Tafforeau…
Other players who played at LOSC and FC Rouen include Éric Allibert, Christophe Avril, Jules Bigot (coach), Laurent Bouchez, Jean-Luc Buisine, Grégory Campi, Aurélien ChedjouChristophe Cottet, Cyriaque Didaux, Joël Dolignon, Marc-Antoine Fortuné, Denis Garbay, Gabriel Guikoune, Pascal Guion, François Heutte, Roger Hitoto, Éric Joly, Mamadou Kané, Jean-Michel Lachot, Samuel Lobé, David Mialon, Stéphane Morillon, Jean-Pierre Orts (player and coach), Parizon (coach) Roussey (coach), Dominique Rustichelli, René Salembier, Patrice Sauvaget, Didier Simon, Dorian Sorin, Abdoulaziz Sy, Grégory Tafforeau and Michel Titeca.
The brother of a former Mastiff in Rouen
In the Benzia family, we all know Yassine (30 years old), former Mastiff between 2015 and 2020 and who today in Qarabağ, Azerbaijan. But did you know that his eldest, Mustapha, 34, has been playing for FC Rouen since 2017? We bet you also don’t know that a third brother, Farid (32 years old) now in Arles, also (briefly) wore the LOSC jersey, between 2011 and 2012, within the training center.
FC Rouen, US Quevilly-Rouen Métropole: What’s the difference?
Observers of French football have seen several names pass to the Rouen club(s) in recent years, between FC Rouen 1899 and US Quevilly Rouen Métropole. We’re clearing that up. The main club in the city of Rouen has always been FC Rouen 1989, the future opponent of LOSC, which plays in red and white. Its neighbor and rival, US Quevilly, historically plays in yellow and black and comes from the town of Petit-Quevilly, in the western suburbs of Rouen.
In 2015, the two clubs decided to come together and pool their resourcesincluding the Robert-Diochon stadium where the FCR previously played. The two clubs, however, maintain two distinct teams: FC Rouen and US Quevilly, which now takes the name US Quevilly Rouen Métropole and which changes its colors to play in red and yellow. FC Rouen continues to evolve in its traditional colors.
In 2018, the FCR decided to regain its independence and returns to the national level in 2023. The two clubs are now playing in the National. They also have the same number of points (18) at the end of the 14th daytime.
Robert-Diochon, a legendary stadium
Inaugurated in 1914 (first under the name of Stade des Bruyères), the Stade Robert-Diochon is certainly among the emblematic venues of the French football landscape. Located in the town of Petit-Quevilly, the complex, which has also hosted US QRM matches since 2015, has notably hosted matches for the French team in the past. In the championship, FC Rouen and QRM share the stadium this season.
