Securing sensitive neighborhoods in Saint-Nazaire

After the gunshots and brawls that took place in the sensitive neighborhoods of Saint-Nazaire in recent days, the prefect of " rel="tag">Pays de la Loire, prefect of Loire-Atlantique, Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze took new measures by extending the plan of security implemented in the Trébale district, on July 12, 2024 in the Prézégat district in November 2024 and, today, in the other sensitive districts of the municipality.

Thus, since the beginning of November, 10 operations have been implemented mobilizing nearly 100 departmental personnel supported on numerous occasions by Mobile Force Units. They made it possible to check 316 people and 102 vehicles.

Around ten people were arrested, including 8 illegal foreigners, and 6 criminal fixed fines were issued.

In order to determine the reinforced actions that will be implemented in the coming weeks, the prefect chaired a working meeting on December 13, 2024 with the police and the mayor of the municipality.

Following this meeting, on December 16, 2024, Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze presented this reinforced action plan, during a new meeting at the sub-prefecture of Saint-Nazaire, in the presence of Eric de Wispelaere deputy prefect of Saint-Nazaire, David Samzun, mayor of Saint-Nazaire, Florence Sroda-Bru, public prosecutor and Philippe Jos, director interdepartmental of the National Police of Loire-Atlantique.

This action plan is structured around nine axes

1. Strengthen the police presence in sensitive neighborhoods and thus support local staff.
2. Clean the common areas and visit all vacant housing in conjunction with social landlords in order to secure squatted apartments and recover any drugs and weapons that may be hidden there.
3. Identify squats through coordinated national police-municipal police action and identify squats which could be places of accommodation for people involved in trafficking.
4. Deport illegal aliens.
5. Think in conjunction with the town hall about strengthening public facilities, particularly the
video surveillance in strategic locations.
6. Control places where weapons and ammunition are sold.
7. Increase inter-service control operations by mobilizing all the services concerned, particularly in fast food establishments.
8. Identify individuals disturbing public order and who benefit from social assistance, particularly social housing.
9. Implement controls on peripheral traffic routes, particularly at the entrance to neighborhoods and at Saint-Nazaire station.
