During this period of rush in supermarkets in anticipation of the end-of-year holidays, the initiative comes at the right time. In fact, a shopping center located in Tourville-la-Rivière, near Rouen (76), has just installed new parking spaces reserved for seniors. Unlike the spaces dedicated to people with disabilities or large families which are deliberately wider to facilitate access for users in their vehicles, the new spaces for seniors have the particularity of having been installed close to the entrance to shopping malls.
For greater readability, a floor color code was set up by the hypermarket management. Senior places are painted pink, while those for people with disabilities are blue. Finally, large families and pregnant women can park in orange rectangles. The symbols painted on the ground and the signs installed at the front of the places mark the difference.
Respect your neighbor
This infrastructure is a godsend for certain seniors, who sometimes had to travel several meters before reaching the shopping center, depending on the crowds. In total, 14 places on the 2 300 available were allocated to seniors. On the other hand, the shopping center does not intend to verify the age of users occupying these places, and relies on the civic-mindedness of everyone to ensure harmonious cohabitation. Obviously, seniors who consider themselves able-bodied enough can continue to park in standard spaces.
