TOULON: The Léa Association, winner of the 2024 Inclusion Challenge

Launched in 2021 by APICIL, one of the leading groups in social and heritage protection in , the Inclusion Challenge highlights project leaders who, on their scale, are working to make society more inclusive.

The award-winning projects aim to fight against all forms of exclusion, whether linked to disability, state of health, illness, precariousness, origins, age, sexual orientation , gender or physical appearance. This 4th edition was marked by something new with Territoria Mutuelle, a member of the APICIL Group, which became a partner of the Inclusion Challenge in order to allow Public Actors to participate.

On the occasion of the closing ceremony held on December 10 in , the 9 finalist project leaders of the Inclusion Challenge presented their initiatives to the jury. Made up of employees, administrators, institutions and partners of the APICIL Group, it directly designated the winners of each of the 3 categories: Association, Entrepreneur and Public Actor.

The 3 winning initiatives of the 2024 edition of the Inclusion Challenge are:

– Association category: Léa (Fight Together Differently)

Located in , this association supports and supports families of sick or disabled children, whatever the type of pathology. The Léa association’s project stands out for its global and caring approach towards families of sick or disabled children. In order to support them in their daily and administrative journey, the association offers a “A toolbox for caregivers”.

Concretely, Léa supports parents in the development and monitoring of their files, particularly with the Departmental House for Disabled Persons (MDPH), a process that is often complex and trying. The association also organizes respite days and family outings to offer moments of comfort and conviviality.

In addition, it provides valuable support to families facing bereavement, by offering them booklets and practical guides to help them better understand and navigate administrative and medical procedures.

– Entrepreneur Category: L’Adaptelier

L’Adaptelier is a -based company specializing in adapting clothing for the elderly or people with disabilities, with the aim of making their daily lives easier and more comfortable. Founded by three young entrepreneurs met at the IAE, this end-of-studies project was created to respond to an essential need: to facilitate the dressing of people facing mobility or dexterity difficulties.

The concept consists of making existing clothing more accessible, through tailor-made, ergonomic and discreet modifications. For example, magnetic closures replace traditional buttons on shirts, making them easier to handle for people with osteoarthritis. For people in wheelchairs, zippers are integrated into the sides of the pants, making them easier to put on. The objective is to meet the specific needs of each person while preserving the aesthetic and practical aspect of the clothing.

By choosing to adapt clothes rather than designing new ones, the Adaptelier offers a solution that is both economical and ecological. This approach allows people to keep their personal clothing, thus preserving their identity, while gaining autonomy.

– Public Actor Category: Look at me, a show by young autistic people”, an initiative of Vinatier, a hospital center specializing in psychiatry and based in in the Rhône (69)

As part of its mission of social inclusion, the multidisciplinary team of SESSAD EVAI (Special Education and Home Care Service Together Towards an Inclusive Future) of the hospital supported 11 young autistic people in an ambitious project: creation of a play entitled “Regarde-moi”. For six months, these young people participated in around twenty workshops covering various disciplines, such as theater, improvisation, graphic design, as well as sound and light creation.

Supervised by professionals, they discovered the performing arts and communication professions, while developing new skills revealing their talents. On July 5, 2024, they took to the stage of the Théâtre de L’Île Ô, in the heart of Lyon, for a unique performance in front of a packed house of more than 200 spectators. With energy and talent, the young actors carried a strong message of tolerance and respect, illustrating the power of inclusion and creativity.

Each of the winners received a grant of €10,000 to support the development of their initiative and contribute to a more inclusive world. The 6 non-winning finalists also received €2,000 each to support their initiative.

« The 2024 edition of the Inclusion Challenge was a real success, with inspiring and innovative projects carried out by actors from all backgrounds. We would like to thank all the participants: they are a valuable source of inspiration and demonstrate the growing commitment to inclusion in our society. We are proud to promote these initiatives which actively contribute to building a more inclusive society. It is together that we will continue to advance this great cause! » concludes Philippe Barret, Managing Director of the APICIL Group.
