Hélène Clauzel finished the Namur cyclo-cross with her left thigh bleeding. “I fell into the big slope, at the start of the race, with Amandine (Fouquenet). She fell in front of me and I couldn’t avoid her” tells the French Champion to DirectVelo. On the line, she finished in the Top 15 (see the ranking).
From this ranking, the representative of Van Rysel CX Racing Team mainly remembers the improvement in her sensations. “It’s the first time in a long time that I’ve started on the 3rd row, it’s weird but I got off to a good startshe says. But I got overtaken in the first turns. I focused on my feelings, to be technically clean. It gets better from week to week, it’s nice, I finished 15th, it’s encouraging for the future“. The winner of eight races in the United States (read here) ranks one place behind another tricolor, Amandine Fouquenet. “We are not thinking at all about the race for the first Frenchwoman. We don’t race against each other. We are trying to fight with the Dutch. I wanted to manage. When we get too red in the bumps, then in the slopes, we do anythingi”.
“A PARTICULAR FERVOR”
The Mixed Relay World Champion always loves coming back to run around the Citadel of Namur, despite the difficulties of the course. “It was the first race that was really in the mud, so technically it felt weird. It’s still very, very hard here but it’s still so beautifulshe appreciates. I still love this circuit as much, we still have fun there. There is always a particular fervor, the Walloons encourage us a lot. It’s crazy“.
She hopes to find a great atmosphere on December 29, at home in Besançon for the only French stage of the World Cup. “It’s always a great moment to run in Besançon. I have all my relatives there, my childhood friends and I know that with AC Bisontine, it is still a great organization“. Before this meeting, Hélène Clauzel will follow Hulst and Zonhoven in the World Cup next weekend. “I’m staying in Belgium for a week, I’ll be able to rest“. She will then skip Gavere, on December 26, to keep fresh before the triptych, Besançon, Dendermonde and French Championship.
