“My client was totally in the west”

Present at the trial, his mother asks the court not to send her son to prison and to force him to receive treatment. “He stopped methadone, he wanted money to buy drugs, he thought I wanted to throw coffee in his face, he went crazy, his brain is affected, he is destroying himself. He’s my only son, I want him to take care of himself, prison is useless. »

“What would have happened if the police had not arrived? “, asks Deputy Prosecutor Jean Demattéis. “Nothing at all, I didn’t hit my mother, I threw her in the closet for a bit, that’s not nice,” replies the defendant who assures that he does not need care. His record includes ten convictions including violence, insults, and threats.

Dangerous to himself and others

Sam fell into heroin at the age of 26 and stopped taking his substitute because he didn’t have a Vitale card. He left school very young and has not worked for two years. He lived as a couple but his partner left him because of his violence. The psychiatric expert noted an alteration of discernment at the time of the events. Thirty-year-olds present with personality disorders in the form of symptoms that are less severe than schizophrenia. The doctor considers him dangerous for himself and others.

The deputy prosecutor doubts that he will respect an obligation of care. He understands the mother’s position but believes that prison is the only way to prevent her from doing it again given her background. This is why he is demanding two years’ imprisonment, including six months’ suspended probation, including a ban on contact with his mother.

In defense, Me Annabelle Redon pleads for a shorter sentence and an adjustment of the farm part so that he can be picked up by his mother and treated, “otherwise it will be the street when leaving prison”. She asks the court to take into account the altered control of acts, “my client was totally out of it, he loses control as soon as he takes drugs.”

The man was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, including eighteen months suspended on probation, including an obligation to provide care and training. He is prohibited from appearing at his mother’s home but will be able to communicate with her. The court ordered his continued detention.
