Lucie Marquet celebrates her 100th birthday

He is an emblematic figure of the city who has just passed the 100-year mark. And in good shape at that.

Lucie Marquet, a resident of rue Pierre-Sémard for decades and who recently joined a reception establishment for the elderly in , is not stingy with her memories. Far from it. As she recalled during the party organized for her 100th birthday, celebrated Wednesday December 4, 2024, with 27 family members and friends.

Lucie Marquet was born Soulet, in Beauvois-en-Cambrésie (Hauts-de-), her mother being from the North. She arrived in Touraine at a very young age and stayed with her uncle and aunt, horticulturists in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, while waiting for her parents to settle in a small house on rue Pierre-Sémard. “His father, as a painter, and his mother opened a net and curtain business in the same place. At 14, she joined the La Touraine Républicaine printing company in Tours, as an apprentice linotyper. Then she became a proofreader in the same company until her retirement. No more spelling mistakes in our language will escape him”affirms his godson.

The memory of the city

But Lucie Marquet also left her mark on the city. In particular, she participated with great regularity in the flower houses competition organized by the municipality. A city which has retraced its journey and which can be heard on its site and on the SoundCloud platform. An astonishing journey for the woman who was 19 years old at the time of the bombings of April 11, 1944. A journey made up of many other notable moments. Suffice to say that Lucie Marquet is today one of the living memories of Saint-Pierre-des-Corps. For its 100th anniversary, it received visits from elected officials, former and current.
