“Should we repair the damage from the fair at Avroy Park every year?”, asks the #neighborhood committee

Every year, the Liège October Fair invades the main avenue of Avroy Park with its various attractions and booths. Next door, the fairground caravans set up on the flowerbeds or lawns close to them and this cyclically causes certain damage that the City must repair as spring approaches.

In view of the 2024 experience, with the influence of the fair on the park by increasingly larger caravans in a space reduced by the tram, it is now time to seek creative solutions for the future in order to make the space to local residents and to reduce the systematic need for restoration, the Centre-Avroy-Saint-Jacques neighborhood committee is demanding today. Lawns are very damaged each time. “We are requesting a meeting with Alderman Léonard and city officials, to reflect together on the master plan announced, with the arrival of the tram.

« We are not against the fair », underlines the president, Bernard Ghymers. “We simply want to initiate discussions to limit the nuisance, so that the park remains a park despite this fairground event. For example, this would involve using the bus lane which will be disused to install caravans there rather than on the lawns. Holes remained there all last year, especially around the pond.
In short, anticipatory measures, since we know that the event returns annually.
